The goose that saved the people of Freiburg

In the Second World War Freiburg had been very lucky and in Nov 1944 the had not been the target of any major bombing. The people had grown tired of running for cover when the sirens sounded. On Nov 27th the sirens went and Freiburg ignored it. The geese didn't. All the geese starting making an awful racket and acting very strange. Finally the people were worried and went into the shelters. 14,525 bombs were dropped and 9,600 people were injured. This would have been much worse if not for the geese so they erected a monument in their honour. Incidentally, all the geese died in the bombings.
