Blues in Washington DC
This evening an old friend of Marylee's (they'd been at summer camp together in their teens) took us to experience the Memphis Gold Blues band at a church in Washington, which hosts weekly blues and jazz evenings.
The group was wonderful. Three of the regular members are on the left, with the drummer, bass and keyboard players out of the frame to the right. The singer had stepped out of the audience just for this number--as did some three other ladies; all of them might as well have been regular participants.
We left my son Len's house this morning and took the train from Baltimore to Washington (an hour's ride). We spent the day partly at the National Gallery, but also at the National Geographic Museum (where we'd never been), seeing an exhibition of superb lion, tiger and bear photographs, as well as "Women of Vision", a wonderful show of photographs by over a dozen women photographers, most of whom have been associated with the National Geographic Magazine.
