First Snow

We had our first snow of the year on the high moors this morning and my friend Ian and I went up to take a few pictures.

It was quite cold, but we were well wrapped up and about the first thing we noticed was a huge flock of golden plover sweeping around in circles not far from the car park. That was our first subject - lots of pictures of them agains the blue sky and against the storm clouds which were moving across the horizon.

Evenutally, we headed on up to Great Staple Tor. The snow wasn't thick, but it did make a difference to the colours in the landscape and this, combined with the light, produced compositions whichever way we looked.

This shot pretty much summed up the morning - the wind was very strong at this height and sucked the heat out us, so we took the pictures and headed back down the tor to the car. When I got home, I'd taken just over three hundred pictures , which I managed to get down to just over two hundred on the first cull.

I think it will be a bit difficult getting the number lower than this. I won't have much time tomorrow, as I'm doing a day's supply teaching tomorrow. It could mean an emergency blip!

I hope you have all managed in the cold/snow and have got some good pictures. I shall look forward to seeing them, but it's late, so I won't check tonight.
