Shawlands United Reformed Church, Glasgow

I am not exactly sure what this is on the roof of the church - perhaps something to do with the ventilation? I have noticed these on several churches in the Glasgow area.

Anyway, the shape, colours and slates caught my eye, set against the clear blue sky.

The church congregation are celebrating the centenary of the building this year.
