My Great Grandma's Box
I have this box of bits that was given to me when my Great Grandma Lilian died. We weren't massively close because she was already quite elderly by the time I came along, but I did see her fairly regularly. She lived to about 96 which I don't thing many of us could complain about. I love getting this box of stuff out, it smells totally different to everything else in my world. Its a nice smell, maybe tinted with a subtle waft of make up or vintage perfumes. I don't like to open it too often in case that smell runs out.
Inside there isn't really anything of value. A couple of nik naks, a brooch, and St Christopher and an old match box. The only thing I recognise from books on childrens toys of the 1900s is this little lady sat on the corner. She is tiny and came in a little wooden egg labelled "the smallest doll in the world". All her tiny limbs still move all these years later despite them being thinner than a matchstick.
