A better class of graffiti...

172 years ago it seems people took more care when making their mark. I find this so much less offensive than the ugly scratches and scrawls of nowadays. In fact, I do not find it offensive at all - rather an enhancement. I wonder what the consensus was back then?
I have seen many such examples of craft on rocks and wood scattered around. The cliffs at St Bees head are festooned with many beautiful carved initials and names. Some enormous. Some really beautifully executed. How many today would have such skill?
