Cairo, el Maadi

A trip to the area of Maadi this afternoon. It was only 20 mins in the taxi (easily 1hr in the rush hour though), but it felt like a leafy, upmarket suburb and very un-Cairo-ish! Popular with expats and monied Egyptians, it was a lovely escape to the peeping horns, but felt a bit unreal! On one of the main streets, Street 9, there were even three places which were licensed! Then we headed to Zamelek to deliver the trainers to Yasheen who loved them. I felt like an onlooker to Cinderella trying on the ball shoes! He was delighted and very grateful. They'll definitely protect his feet more than the flip flops over the next couple of cooler months.
