Quercus prinus (montana or michauxii)

This is Quercus prinus (Now split into Q. montana or Q. michauxii) since it is not in ts native habitat I have a hard time telling the difference, montana is native to Appalachians and michauxii is native to the floodplains of the eastern US

Boulder Colorado is home to many of the largest specimens of eastern native trees in Colorado. A combination of special circumstances allows for this: a bit more precipitation and possibly neutral to slightly acid soils allow a wide array of tree rarely or never seen along the Front range of Colorado to thrive.

Kudos to the pioneers who had the forethought to plant many of these species so long ago in various locations around Boulder.

This one is at Chautauqua
