Woodland Bounty
My trip out to the woodland turned up a few blewitts, but not enough to make a worthwhile haul. Instead, I came across a crabapple tree that had lost all its fruit onto a soft bed of drifting beech leaves. The wonderful thing about crabapples is than however mis-shapen and unappetising they look, when simmered and strained through a jellybag, and boiled with sugar, they produce a jelly of the utmost clarity with a superb bitter-sweet flavour, and if you are lucky, the most unexpected and exquisite colours. These are now duly straining, giving off a wonderful aroma, but it looks as though the colour will be a subtle green.
It's a grey day, so a bit of catching up at home. Back to classes tomorrow.
