It has been another very busy Sunday. Started out with a local Pop-up Xmas Fair at a private school in our area. From there it was on to Belair National Park to check out this new and perplexing locked gate by the railway line situation.
As our favourite Gate 6 entrance is now locked with a ridiculous 7 padlocks spread over the 2 gates, we entered the Park at Gate 7, and then walked up the track for several hundred metres, then cut across the railway line and walked back down the track to Gate 6! This is our favourite bird photography spot. No birds today, but Paladian got a wonderful hover fly.
Next it was on to two Open Gardens, the first one being Videon Wells at Highgate, an inner city suburb. It was very neat and perfect, but no sign of the owners to chat to or welcome people which is the norm. That was disappointing.
Then it was on the magnificent garden of Barb and Rick Allert at Hazelwood Park, a wealthy eastern suburb of Adelaide. Rick is an Order of Australia recipient for his services to the community. He told us that wife Barb does the garden and gives full credit to her.
The blip I chose is an overview of the colour that greets you when you step inside the front gate. They have an underground water tank, under the lawn, that holds 120,000 litres. This pretty much waters all of the garden throughout summer.
The garden has the Waterfall Gully Creek flowing through part of it, making a superb feature, leading to the creek garden of entirely native plants on the other side of the creek.
More colour.
On the way home we checked out the bottom section of the recently opened Waite Conservation Reserve, a walking trail through natural bush on the edge of the S.E. suburban area. The reserve has extensive hiking trails and is an adventure waiting for another day.
Now it was time to go home for some rowing training and sorting out my blip.
