Mapua

A nice lie in, breakfast and then down to the wharf for some fishing. Fab day, warm, sunny, no wind. No fish either (aside for a few sprats) but great fun. And with many local cafes, a latte was very easily accessible, right to the fishing spot ;-)

Home, pack the car, and off for the day. First stop the jester Café, just outside of Mapua. Been years since I’d been there, just fantastic. And a beautiful goat tangine I had … washed down with a lovely Neudorf Pinot Rose. The kids had fun feeding the eels.

And then off to Kateriteri for the afternoon. Not too busy, but sunny and warm, with no wind. Fantastic! Some reading, playing in the sand, a stand up board trial, a swim, ball throwing, a cold beer. Again, just divine! We left just before 6pm, hard to tear away …

And then back to Mapua, drop gear off and down to the wharf. Fish and chips ordered, and then to the Golden Bear, a brew pub, for a lovely craft IPA. The plan was to have a beer while F&C cooked, then eat on the wharf. But we took a little long to enjoy the beer, so we, like many, ate the meal at the pub. Classic, so casual, and all the locals do it.

Finished the meal, and the beer, the down to the wharf with a bottle of wine to watch the sunset, to sort of finish the day the way it started.

Have to say, and idyllic day. Would you do all these things if you lived here? Hopefully!

Oh yes, and that's Sue smiling ... ;-)
