One For The Road
Poor old Michael Finnegan. He had such a nice evening tonight, and is going to have such a horrible day tomorrow. Henrietta will see to that.
Mickey didn't mean to spend all evening in the pub... it just sort of happened that way. He told Henrietta that he was just going out for one drink with a few of his pals. Just the one. Well, maybe two, but no more than that.
And then when he got there, one of his friends bought him a drink. And so did another. In fact, he didn't get a chance to buy a round until the sixth drink of the evening. And by that time, another few friends had turned up. Of course, it would have been rude to have left without letting them buy him a drink...
Henrietta actually enjoyed the evening. She was able to watch an episode of Downton that she had SkyPlussed, then watched a film starring Hugh Grant. She didn't really care which film it was, she just likes Hugh Grant.
But then Michael came home, raucously singing a song about the Mill Owner's Daughter, and all of Henrietta's good feelings quickly evaporated.
Michael may be happy now, but tomorrow morning his head will be pounding, and his stomach will be rebellious. He will get scant sympathy from his wife... scant sympathy indeed.
