Kek Lok Si Buddhist Temple
Slightly earlier morning as we had to change room because our 2 beds had been booked up. Changed into a bigger dorm but with the same style of beds. Did 5 different trips back and fourth so we didn't have to pack our bags. We are both on the top bunks so have to climb up some big stairs to get to them. When I went down this morning I put my hand out to shake Charlie's hand instead of getting a hug from him! We asked at reception what there was to do. The lady told us what buses to take to get there. When we were waiting at the 'bus stop' (edge of the road) we saw Charlie approaching. Luckily he just pointed and shouted something to us. We thought he was going to come with us!! Took the first bus to a bus station and then took another one to somewhere I have no idea of the name of! We hopped off when we saw Kek Lok Si temple. Lots of stairs to the top. There was a pond half way up with masses of turtles, too many it looked like. Many, many stairs again to finally get to the first bit of the temple. Completely different temple to Myanmar. Very colourful. We took a open lift up to the temple at the top. Apparently it is the biggest temple in South East Asia. We couldn't see the view very well as there has been bush fires in Indonesia which has made it hassy over here. For lunch, we had some local food at the bottom. Really good noodles. Walked for ages to get to the world's steepest funicular railway. Booked our ticket and tried getting through some glass doors. We looked liked fools as it was the wrong way through and everyone on the other side could see us trying to get through. We had to go around the other side to get through. Crazy how steep the track is. The train is made in 3 different levels so everyone is upright. When we got to the top we were supposed to see a really good view but all we could see was fog....silly indonesian fires! Further up there wasn't much. There was a hindi temple. Morag and I spotted a monkey so we went over to see it. Morag said to me 'whatever you do, do NOT look to your left'...what do I do I look to my left straight away. A very bad mistake, this man was half naked with a cone in his pants over his thing. We weren't sure if it was something to do with the culture or not. We got the giggles so I went over to pretend to try and find the monkey...when I next looked around Morag had gone and this man had almost blocked my way. He pointed to his cone and said 'you like' that's when I realised this rather large man had no culture in him. I walked past him and turned around and he flashed. So I ran back to my Wad!!! Scarred for life is all I can say.We went into 'owl house' excepting to see lots of owls. There were none, it was just things that were made into owls. Funny picture of me with masses of toy owls. Back down the very steep train. We then sat on a bus 3 hours until the bus stopped and everyone got off. We obviously missed our stop. We walked for a while and found a little cafe and had supper there. We then had to take a taxi back to the hostel as we had no idea where we were. Nothing exciting happened in the evening.
