Guelder-rose

Arguably the most beautiful of all our native shrubs, the Guelder-rose, Viburnum opulus, is especially stunning at the moment. Not only does it have the brightest clusters of red berries, it also has superbly autumn-coloured leaves for a while, until we get more frosts and strong winds. It is an absolute delight, dotted along the woodland rides and in blocks of scrub all over the nature reserve.
