Little Lucie

Went to visit almost-month old Lucie Elisabeth this afternoon - she is officially CUTE. Here is J practising at being an auntie - not that she needs practice.

Looking on Blip, you realise how common a new baby is, and yet...never commonplace - always a miracle.

One of my favourite authors, Eugene Peterson, tells how he was in the grocery store the day after being present at his granddaughter's birth, and wanting to grab the mothers snapping at their over-lively kids, embrace them and tell them, "Do you realize what you have done? You have given birth to a child, a child - this miracle, this wonder, this glory. You're a Madonna! Why aren't you in awe and on your knees with the magi, with the shepherds?"
