Bizzare what people dream up for "entertainment"

I forgot to mention last night, we were hosted by Qatar Airways at the "Grand Reception". This was held at a location literally about half a mile from the end of the runway. So as we swanned around with drinks and canapes, the aircraft all took off over our heads.

I'm sure they were deliberately changing the flightpath so all the Qatar Airways flights flew low directly overhead. And all us airport geeks were identifying the different plan models.

Tonight, it was more of the same at the "Grand Dinner" by the airline. Almost identical to the first night - but with a sit-down meal on the beach at the Grand Hyatt.. There were Qatar Air Hostesses all lined up in uniform to welcome us :)

To entertain us over champagne - there were dancers in giant hamster balls filled with glitter! I'm sure it made sense to someone. But we decided after a couple of drinks, it was time to bail before the main meal.

So headed over to Gordon Ramsay's at the St Regis Hotel for a good honest burger with a side of macaroni cheese....followed by cherry bakewell and clotted cream. It was less pretentious than the dinner we abandoned...but still pretentious enough!
