Malaria, uh oh
Off to the hospital this morning. We got a taxi to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. We went into the wrong bit but I told the woman what my problem was and she told me where to go. She looked shocked and said that it could be very serious. Mar and I just laughed! Got to the emergency bit and had to fill out a form before I could see a nurse. Saw the nurse and told her all of my symptoms. She took my blood pressure and put something weird on my finger and then took my temperature. Had to wait about an hour on the 'blue' chairs before I got a blood test. Another nurse came over to me and did the same procedure as the other nurse. Finally went to get a blood test. They left the plastic tube in my arm incase they had to do anything else to me. Felt so strange having it in my arm. Never had blood taken from me before and it looked like they took masses! Had to give them a urine sample, when I gave it to them, I had to walk in front of everyone with my little tube and give it to the front desk! Had to then wait another hour and a half before they could tell me the results. Talked to another doctor. Said I had malaria and possibly glandular fever. They took me through onto a bed and put me on the drip. They then took blood from my other arm. So now going to have 2 nice bruises on each side! When the drip had finished, blood started going the other way which worried me a bit as no nurse had come. Mar went to ask if that was suppose to happen and apparently, yes it's fine! I had to go to the loo so I had to wheel the drip by the side of me to go. Mar was taking lots of pictures! The doctor walked past and told me I now didn't have malaria and they will take half an hour to test for glandular fever. Half an hour later they told me I had glandular fever. The nurse then took ages to come and take the drip out of me. The needle bit in my arm was huge when she took it out!! Mar had texted Morag saying that I had malaria and glandular fever before we found out that I actually didn't. She was about to come over and I had to tell her that I was about to leave the hospital. Anyway, we met her outside! Anna her cousin is a doctor and asked me masses of questions about it all. We said goodbye to them and Jorge picked us up. Anna wanted to find a cactus for the house!! Back at the house we didn't do much.
