An Angel.

I look at my mother's face on the cold morning and all I can see is sadness. She won't admit to this emotion nor would she ever begin to explain why she felt that way.

Her cigarette rests between her aging fingers as she slowly brings it to her shivering lips. *inhales* Holding the smoke in for a moment longer. *exhales*
Repeat a few more times. Each time showing more and more hurt shadowing her face, shielding her eyes. Her hazel eyes are glistening in the rays of the sun and she is silent. All the noise surrounding her is just her hard breath.
I can tell she is in deep thought. I can feel she is longing something;someone.

You came into her life unannounced little one. You weren't a mistake. And you weren't a plan. You just are. You have stolen each heart you've wrapped your little hand around. But that is not all you have done...

You have given my mother hope. You have given her that special glisten in her smile. That extra ounce of excitement in her voice. You have given her a title that she is holding onto so dearly. "Grandma."

It's a beautiful thing to have a child living in your house. You get to see a side of life that most don't get to see. You get to witness one of the most beautiful things in life...growth,curiosity, and dependency.

I suppose the sad part of it all is when we lack your presence. When you go hours, days, even weeks without being in our arms. Each second your away...my mother hurts a little more. I think she stares at you for hope. I think she depends on you to bring her happiness because she lost hers so long ago.
I like to think of you my dearest one, as her angel.
An angel you are.
