Southern Man
Light bedtime reading at the moment: Harry Turtledove's The Guns of the South, written in the 1990s and set in the distant year of 2013, when a group of South African neo-Nazis steal a prototype time machine and use it to supply the Confederate States of America with AK-47s in 1863. Unsurprisingly, the war is tipped decisively in favour of the Confederacy, and the Afrikaners aim to shape the infant nation in their own dystopian image. It's down to Robert Lee to find out the identity and motives of the men from the future, and discover some startling truths about how history views the Confederate cause along the way...
