Red for Remembrance
I always feel a bit conflicted on Remembrance Day. I worry about the tendency to glorify war. I think of all the bodies destroyed by violence, and I wonder what we, the living, can do with the overwhelming grief and terror of our history.
I listened to the prayer from Ottawa this morning on CBC and felt heartened by the message of embracing peace as a first response to conflict. It seems to me that to prioritize peaceful resolution to conflicts is the least we can do, as individuals and as nations, to properly honor the victims of our bloody past.
