At the Veterans' Quilt Honours
Nearly ten handmade patriotic quilts were given to U.S. veterans of wars this afternoon at the local quilt shop. Speeches were made thanking the two women and seven men for their service. Especially touching were the Viet Nam thank you speeches and the reaction of those vets. A good friend, Dave, who sat next to me, received his folded blanket that showed an American eagle in the center and beautiful stars threaded throughout in the quilting. When I looked at him there were tears in his eyes.
The blip I chose here is of the only World War II veteran in attendance.
He was so jolly and happy about receiving this quilt I thought he was going to drop his cane and dance a jig. His daughter who was a nurse in Viet Nam sits next to him.
A few of the unfinished quilts are on the wall.
Brownies and chocolate chip cookies were passed by the wives of some of the vets.
A memorable day was had by all.
