Honiton lace

Today I joined Js Mums Pams craft group in Axminster.
One of the local crafts is lace making of which a sample of free lace containing Honiton lace is modelled here by Pam.
Although the name suggests it is owned by Honiton it was actually made by individuals from surrounding East Devon villages; they each had a speciality section.
In 1698 a quarter of the local population were lace makers.

Queen Victorias wedding dress contained a flounce of Honiton lace. She was so impressed she commissioned a christening robe containing it for her eldest daughter.

Prince George also had a replica of this 1841 robe for his recent christening.
