HMS Repulse
I don't know why I have not blipped this before. This large model of HMS Repulse sits in the foyer of Lews Castle College. The college originally was founded to train young men from the island to go to sea, and for young ladies to go "into service" (such were the grand hopes of Empire!). The college has grown over the century into a university college, but we still have this huge model to remind us. The history of HMS Repulse can be read here - it was sunk in the Pacific with a tremendous loss of life. Another reminder of the futility of war.
