Experimental

A fine day demands a fine wander with the Moffs. We went to see Delph's cuddies and had a wee wander around them. I can't believe they don't have a staircase inside leading to a viewing platform at each nostril. What a waste.

Then it was back to play with beer. It started with this morning's cleaning up. I reckoned that the 3 gallons of grains and water left steeping overnight, covered and still warm, was quite sweet. Not as sweet as the worts brewed yesterday but maybe sweet enough to make a passable small beer - a lighter, low alcohol beer for quaffing.

This is where the experimenting starts because this isn't how small beers are usually made. And checking the gravity of it suggested that it could only be 2% maximum but likely to be more like Top Deck. So, I reckoned it might work if I heated it up to mash temperature, added a little more grains and then brewed that. We'll see. It looks decidedly sludgey at the moment and with only a couple of gallons in the pot, it was quite hard to stop it from boiling very hard and quite a lot had evaporated away. I'll see how it is in the morning but I'll chuck the yeast in anyway. What could possibly go wrong?
