Sheffield

Off to see my uncle and aunt in Sheffield today; it's been a long time since I've seen them and 2 of the +3s have never met them. The house they live in is on the edge of Sheffield and the same house I last visited about 30 years ago. They fed us a lovely lunch (including a truly impressive apple pie), let the children destroy their huge pile of cuddly toys and climb the trees in the garden. A big hit with the +3s and lovely to catch up.

Afterwards, as we were in that neck of the woods we were off to the Magna centre; a science/education centre in the remains of a steel works. It's the usual combination of good idea funded by (presumably) lottery money that now feels slightly delapidated; this could have been because we were there before the main October holiday rush and so presumably when they were going to be doing repair work. The scale of the steel works is incredible and it must have been something to behold in its heyday.

Oh, and the road system in Sheffield is nuts.
