River Dee at Aberdeen Harbour

After a late night at last nights party I was turfed out of my accommodation and decided to go down to Aberdeen harbour to get a blip of some of the huge boats which berth there from the oil industry. This was one of the first shots I took before walking 3 miles up the harbour mouth and back through Torry (I survived Torry!).

What you can see here is a small part of the harbour which invades the River Dee as the harbour is so busy and packed. Not only are oil vessels parked up tightly the harbour is also vital for the Orkney & Shetland ferry. The river Dee rises on Braeriach in the Cairngorms at 4000 feet (the highest rise of any river in the UK) and falls into the Lairig Ghru and heads South before once again heading East and become the focal point of beautiful Royal Deeside. Eventually after 87 miles the river ends up here in a modern industrial port.
