youneverknow

bring me sunshine.

Remembrance sunday ...decided to stay at home and watch the excellent coverage from the beeb. I have never served in the forces and can only guess what these brave men ad women have seen and endured and have sacrificed. So given that fact it means something different than just pure remembrance of the serviceman and women that have died in conflict.. i think of the families that are left behind..going on without that person in their life. Having them ripped from their life is something i do have knowledge of, although not the result of conflict.. The scars that the families carry cannot be seen but are the most damaging. Its heart breaking to see the families story of mothers weeping for the loss of her son, a wife for her husband. War is an abomination invented by man which is totally deplorable, although on the other hand im no pacifist, if something is of value its also worth protecting. The cost in terms in pain and suffering has to be worth the prize.
I also look into the faces of the ole fellas proudly march in their regiments or squadrons and shipmates...their eyes can tell a story without words... the pride and sorrow they feel now for fallen mates.. the sights that they have witnessed all played out in their faces.
For me remembrance sunday is the first chimes of winter as we head into the dark short days until the year finally ebbs away and we head into the light of the new year ahead and the coming of spring,, hope eternal..we have that luxury of looking forward..something that the fallen and their families do not... forever winter for them and their pain whilst a grateful nation can only say thank you without truly knowing the cost. Great Britain is a proud nation built on the backs of our armed forces.
