Row,row,row your boat...

We went along to Avoch today to see the St. Ayles Skiffs from Coigach, Ardersier and Helmsdale. It was great to see them in the water and so many enthusiastic rowers wanting to take part.
St Ayles Skiffs are 'rowing boats measuring 22ft long and 5ft 6in in breadth and built to the design of a traditional Fair Isle Skiff.'
These boats are becoming more and more popular and the idea behind todays event was to encourage people along and hopefully encourage some to actually help make a skiff for the village of Avoch. As in most things Fortrose will not be far behind so it will be great to see them on the water and possibly racing against each other. There's abit more info here. It's suprising how you can get side tracked when resourcing a blip :)
A very successful world championships was held in Ullapool this year with Skiffs and skiffties from all over the world. The boat pictured is the Coigach skiff that was rowed to victory in the mens open contingent.
