I'm marking the first day of the Bath Mozartfest in almost exactly the same way as I did last year: an annotated viola score. This one belongs to the viola player in the great Takacs Quartet, Gerladine Walther. The score is for Leoš Janáček's 'Intimate Letters' quartet.

I had a seat in the second row. It's a privilege to watch a small group of musicians from such close quarters. A real drama in glances, gestures and communication.
