How do you measure a fluorescent light tube?

It seemed straightforward when ordering the replacement - length 218mm - so I ordered eight, only to discover that their measurement did not include the pins.
Fortunately they didn't cost much, but it seems a bit of a waste.
I'll need to either find fittings for the new tubes or, it seems, but tube/fitting sets that match my existing ones.
