Eye can feel something in there

Blinking away I thought I've got an eyelash in my eye, when I went to look in the mirror to fish it out I found a long hair lining the eyeball along the bottom eyelid. On pulling it out another huge bit came out the side of the eyeball!! *

A) How the hell did it get in there?
B) Was it an ingrown eyelash that just grew into and along the eyeball?

Either way - eewwww
