More desert wildlife

This early Halloween surprise seems to be stalking the front walk, just about ankle level. I went out tonight on a search for a relatively benign giant orb spider (body the size of a large marble, not counting the legs) that was hanging near the garage last night. We think a bird must of have gotten him. But we were on the lookout for this gal, too, since we spotted her web this afternoon in the daylight. Otherwise we might very well have gotten her tangled around our ankles.

Even creepier, just two nights ago I headed out to the pool (my sister has a pool!) and found this gal's bigger sister hanging out on the vacuum line in the middle of the pool. I came face to face with her ... and then began backing slowly away........

I suspect I might have trouble sleeping tonight....
