River North Esk, Angus

Brrrr! It was so cold this morning when we set off on a walk by this lovely river. I was trying to carry walking poles at the same time as taking photographs and the two were not compatible, so the poles had to go (on my back, attached to my rucksack!) The temperature was about minus three degrees Celsius, although the lovely sunshine made it look warmer.

We lunched in Edzell after the first half of the walk and then, sustained by a hot bowl of soup, tackled the second half. Fortunately, it had warmed up a bit by then, so my fingers didn't drop off after all:-) The woods we were walking though were mainly beech and birch and the colours were so beautiful. It was dry underfoot and we kicked through the leaves like school kids! Great fun:-) I'll sleep well tonight!
