THE OLD MILL

Mr.MS7 dropped me off in Halstead for my yoga class. He then went on to the golf club. We met for lunch and then wandered around the old Courtauld Silk Mill buildings.

The silk mills at Halstead and Braintree were major industries for many years in these towns (1825-1982). Courtaulds manufactured the silk for the mourning gowns for Queen Victoria following the death of Prince Albert.

The mill buildings now house a large antique centre and the part shown in the picture is a restaurant. It has been very dull and has rained all day today.
