Harry Beck would have loved this
There was a bit of a corporate shindig going on this morning on platform 1, Victoria Station, London. A splendid set of 1950s vintage coaches in 'blood and custard' livery was topped and tailed by two rather jazzy diesel locos. One decked out in mode-of-transport icons, the other in the modern version of Harry Beck's London Transport tube map. Fittingly it carried the nameplate 'Harry Beck'.
Inside the coaches the tables were set for a fine meal. Just out of sight on platform 1 someone was making a speech to the gathered great and good.
I haven't a clue what it was all about. Corporate sponsorship of the Transport Museum perhaps? Celebrating the good old days before privatisation? Ooh, probably not. But I say Bring Back British Rail.
