Fieldfare again
No apologies for another shot of a Fieldfare - I think they are stunning birds.
This one was caught in the Low Trap on the Isle of May - Tricia and myself having been frustrated over the last couple of days with near misses.
Thrushes like this are useful birds to ring as they are large enough to have a decent chance of being found again and are interesting in that they migrate from Scandinavia, through the UK and onto Spain. Sadly one of the reasons that they have a good chance of being reported is that they are regularly hunted on the continent.
In case you think you will never see a Fieldfare, about three quarters of a million of this species winters in the UK every year and many more pass through on migration. They are quite common if you know what you are looking - and more importantly listening - for.
