Rolling and tumbling

On a weekend in the Yorkshire Dales, A and I walked north from Settle to Stainforth aiming to follow the beck to Catrigg Force and back across the hills. The route was very sketchily described and we had come without a good map (although I did have a compass, for which I was grateful). We ended up on the wrong side of the beck, and had to tramp a lot of up and down before we found a pipe that we could wriggle across, just above the Force. The weather was brilliant - bright sunshine, pleasant breeze, and just enough rain to give us a series of rainbows (there have been so many in the last week or two). There is something endlessly appealing about these rolling upland pastures, and the skill embedded in those dry stone walls that wind and wind to follow the terrain...
