Aging Barns

The primary building in this photo is an old tobacco barn. The tobacco was gathered from the fields during the day and hung in a barn like this one to cure overnight. The barns had heat piped into them to cure the tobacco. The cured tobacco was removed early in the morning to empty the barn for the next day's crop. The covered shelter around the barn protected workers from the sun and equipment from the elements.
