Bathroom Buddies
It rained - YEAHH! And then the flying termites came out in search of light. And they found it, in our bathroom! Well, the kids bathroom actually. The security light for the house is found right outside the bathroom window and that window was left open so there were plenty of the guys in the house to begin with. And then I turned on the light to see how many were there and, well, MORE little guys came flying in! I finally shut the window but by that time, there were hundreds of winged-things in the bathroom. The geckos were so happy!
I don't know much about these flying termites. They come out after the rain, they fly around frantically for a very short time and then shed their wings, mate and die. In parts of this country they are collected and eaten both raw and fried (supposed to taste like peanuts). No, I have never been brave enough to try them!
I took quite a few photos of these guys. It was a real challenge to get the light right. In the end I used a flash. I also liked this one which is taken from the floor looking up at the ceiling...they look trapped in the ball Bathroom buddies 2
I hear our son was traumatised upon seeing the creatures this morning. I am sure we will have to go for counselling at some point.
Have a bug-less day!
