There's something really uplifting about (1) seeing young people reading; (2) seeing them reading Rolling Stone magazine . . .
For a short time in the late 1960s, Rolling Stone, then a newspaper, produced a separate British edition. One week, when I was about the same age as the guy in this picture, the paper I worked for printed it, an event memorable because (1) it took all weekend to print on our dinky little offset press; and (2) it was the first time I'd ever seen the word 'Fuck' in a newspaper headline - over a story about the Bonzo Dog Doo-dah Band . . .
That day was symbolic - the end of my days of journalistic innocence . . .
