Route Choice...
Today was the day of the Big Race, that is orienteering around the streets of Central Rome. We both thoroughly enjoyed our runs, having to make quick decisions about route choices, crossing busy roads in Italian traffic (!) dodging tourists at the honeypot sites and keeping ahead of our competitors. Tony and I have taken part in countless street races to date and much that we enjoy the likes of Sheffield and York, we haven't had to make a route choice such as the one in my blip!
This is the Theatre of Marcellus, the only ancient theatre left in Rome. Julius Caesar came up with the idea but it was built by Augustus in honour of his sister Octavia's son, Marcellus. The theatre could accommodate 15000 to 20000 spectators. The columns centre blip are the remains of the Temple of Apollo Sasiano.
After today's event we crossed the River Tiber to visit St Peter's Square, home to the Vatican buildings. Then we meandered through the streets coming across other blip worthy sights before retiring to our hotel. Home tomorrow!
More Rome blips here!
Hot off the results, Tony was 10th on his course and I was 9th! Well pleased with that!
