Tres Leches Cakes

While having pain au chocolate and a cappuccino at Tartine Bakery, I snuck a peek into the big kitchen. There was one baker to plop the whipped cream, and another to level it on the top of the cake.

We had a wonderful roaming day, climbing steep hills and marveling at sweeping views, snacking as we trotted along. The first Open Studio event was out near Pier 70--over a dozen artists in the Noonan Building, a wooden structure built in 1941 to house the offices to supervise the shipyard war efforts. Photographers, painters, mixed media artists--all friendly and happy to talk about their work. Views across the Bay to Oakland are wonderful, and yet only one artist paints the subject matter of water and sky and vessels.
