Sentinel oaks

This pair of oak trees, standing like sentries either side of the bridlepath, are among my favourite trees and they mark the halfway point where I do my weekly butterfly transect walk (just submitted the data for this year - almost 600 individual butterflies twice as many as 2012 and 25 species). I like the way one tree has grown facing north and the other facing south.

Sowed next year's sweet pea seeds this morning. After several years of sowing on on 1st January I decided to revert to my traditional sowing date at least for the first 100 seed. I've kept 50 back to sow in January and we'll see whether it makes any significant difference to when they flower.
