Fishing on Ocracoke Island Beach
Today we bicycled along Ocracoke Island and during a break, we walked onto the beach and had a conversation with these two guys fishing, locals who have lived on the island their entire lives. They work for a canvas company, primarily making and repairing boat covers and awnings. On their lunch break, they elected to fish. The sting rays were biting, along with flounder and some other unidentifiable fish. They kept the flounder and tossed the rays back into the Atlantic.
Later, we dined at the Atlantic Cafe. After 25 years of business - he doing the cooking and she making the sauces and deserts, as well as doing the reception, cash register job, they have decided to retire. The cool thing is this, being their last night, they were serving all the regulars who live in the area - plus Gina and I. I think we were the only 'tourists'. We wish Ruth and Bob the best.
