The University Colleges Union (UCU) in unison with UNISON and UNITE are striking over pay, conditions and impending privatisation/marketisation of our Higher Education system. This is a day long statement in advance of action short of a strike which commences on the 1st November. Anyone who values education and their children's future - and by implication, the future of this country, should take an interest. It is all in jeopardy and a great sense of 'ennui' seems to have descended across the masses.

Markets, management, profit, league tables are the new lexicon. What happened to learning, critical thinking, debate/discourse, free speech? If you cannot focus on these principles in universities, then disaster looms for society.

Let's hope we win this one - otherwise, everyone loses.....
