Not Porty People and Places

School's out in the old city of Jerusalem! In a street that has little changed since Biblical times these girls run home for lunch while a little boy looks on from the doorway to his house. Our guide took us through these byways to avoid some of the claustrophobic throngs of global pilgrims clogging the route Christ took to his crucifixion.

After yesterday's extraordinary day in The Galilee we experienced an even more profound and thought provoking one exploring Jerusalem from Western Wall to Garden Tomb and from The Mount of Olives to Golgotha. I was last here in 1985 and then you could not move without seeing soldiers everywhere. Today we saw none.

My late father-in-law would have been 100 years old today. A confirmed atheist I suspect he would have had a wry chuckle to himself at where his youngest daughter was remembering the centenary of his birth!

We sail for Rhodes this evening. Tomorrow is a lazy day at sea!
