Bald Eagle

This is the Central Hotel, Shotton, North Wales. Built in 1943 it stands next to the railway station. There used to be stables at the back and the British Rail horse was stabled there.

Horse drawn vehicles were used in railway goods yards with some still working as late as the 1960s. I don't recall seeing horse drawn waggons delivering goods but I do remember the small three wheeled trucks that were used to deliver goods around town. Our coal man and the rag and bone man both had horse and carts. My Great-Grandfather sold fruit and veg from his horse drawn cart.

In 2010 the Central Hotel re-opened as part of the JD Weatherspoon group.
