Day 1 - Tokyo
So here we are in.... Japan!
Landed at 9.30am local time, made our way through immigration, collected luggage and then to the train station in Narita airport to collect our Japan rail passes and train tickets. A marvellous girl booked every train we need for the next 10 days (6 in total), so we needn't have anything to worry about.
Express train into Tokyo took 1 hour, we stumbled through the main station (but did pretty well given the state of our body clocks, senses etc). Took one more train to Shimbashi station and 10 minutes later were in the lobby of our hotel. At last! 32nd floor so an amazing view of the skyline.
3-4 hours in bed to refresh ourselves and then out into the mad world of Tokyo. Stopped for a snack and a beer in a bistro and then ambled around Ginza - full of posh shops and neon and everything you expect - before settling on a local "Yakitori" restaurant, and after much nodding and finger pointing ended up with more beer, Yaki Soba noodles, edamame beans and grilled chicken on skewers. All delicious, and a bargain £17.50. Japan - expensive? Pah!
11pm local time now and it's off to bed - body clock should be back to normal tomorrow. Four days in Tokyo before heading off into the countryside.
Should be fun!
