Riverworks
A number of willows and poplar trees were blown down during the recent nor-west gales. Some of those affected were along the banks of the Taylor River where I walk the dogs. I recently blipped a big willow tree that was lying across the track. That has since been sawn up with a chainsaw and removed.
Another large poplar was blown right across the river bed from bank to bank. The bulk of the several trunks dipped into the waterway itself and would have caused big problems during any future flooding of the river. The Council contractors removed that tree a few days ago.
The contractors were busy cleaning up the waterways again this morning. Dead willows had been cut down, and some trees with rotten roots were also dealt with. The chainsaw was humming away. The digger was picking up large amounts of debris and dumping it into a large truck for removal to the landfill.
Gypsy was offended at trucks being on her tracks and chased after one…much to my embarrassment. So it was on the lead for her.
This image shows the digger poised with debris ready to swing around to the waiting truck.
Alas this area did previously have a lovely view through the gap in the trees and down the river. I have blipped that view in the past. That has all changed for now. But one of the contractors, who knows how keen I am to capture lovely views of the river, assures me that they have merely sawn those willows down and that the area will green up again in no time. It will just be a slightly different view-point in future.
