christmas cake

Today is the first time in about sixteen years that I haven't made the christmas cake with one of the girls helping me, either by weighing out the fruit, stirring the mixture or singing at the top of their voices. Both of them tonight are elsewhere, but I thought of them as I made it.

But I had this unexpected helper instead...
